Taking time out of his schedule Matt Carey did a personal branding session at one of his favourite haunts, the gym, where he both trains for his own physical benefits and he works as a personal trainer.
While it was great photographing this dynamic young man at the gym, it would have been possible to have lined him up in a variety of places. For work Matt is a carpenter employed locally in Warwick. He is also an auxiliary firefighter, and if you don’t know what that is let me help you (psst… I had to ask too). Auxiliary Firefighters are casual, station-based firefighters who respond to emergency situations when the demand arises. How good it is that for ‘another’ job Matt serves his community in this manner.

Where I got to connect with Matt was in his role as a personal trainer!! I got to watch him training one of his clients, witnessing his professional, relaxed manner and the camaraderie they shared as he put them through their paces.

I asked Matt why he did what he did, what he loved most about it, and why he likes being a personal trainer? His response? “Personally I love training in the gym to see the benefits physically with the way the body responds and adapts to different types of training and mentally with how much it can change your mindset. It can change you and your attitude in regards to discipline and determination or even if you’re just having an off day!! As for working with people, it’s rewarding watching people change and grow. Especially when you see people achieve things they never thought they were capable of!!”

Having spent this time with Matt I can appreciate, as can his clients, the work he puts in to not only teach but to lead by example. Taking his own training regime seriously showing what is possible with using the right skills, a good attitude to the process and dedication to the outcome.
When Matt is not building, being a fire fighter or training at the gym what does he do? You can find him playing sport, chilling in front of a movie or relaxing on the beach!!
A huge thank you to Matt and thank you to Ironside Industry Gym for this photo session.
